Sometimes when you ask God for much,
He gives you a little.
This isn't one of those times.

2013 was an eventful year for the Trinity House Institute. We asked God for donors. We asked God for students. We asked God for wisdom. And he answered, giving us more than we could ask or imagine. Below you'll find an update from the board on what the Lord gave us, what He's continuing to give us, and what we're asking Him to give us next year and beyond. We invite you to join us in giving thanks to the God who gives.

How to Read the Bible

Trinity Term, 2013

The Trinity Term intensive course in August was a great success. We had thirteen thoughtful and enthusiastic students from across the eastern United States and from several denominations. The week was truly intensive-wall-to-wall lectures, discussions, seminars, conversations, meals, laughter, nestled in a liturgical cycle of daily Matins, Sext, and Vespers.

Dr. Leithart in Ukraine

THI Eastern Europe

Since we dreamed of Trinity House, we've dreamed of having an international ministry. This year, we took the first steps to make that dream a reality. In September, THI President Peter Leithart lectured in Kyiv, Ukraine, at a pastors' conference co-sponsored by Trinity House Institute and the Alliance of Reformed Churches in Ukraine. Out of that trip came an opportunity. Beginning in 2014, we will begin offering the same kind of week-long intensive courses in Kyiv that we offer in Birmingham. Pastors from Russia, Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria will travel to Ukraine, making THI's geographic reach very wide.

Works in Progress

Publishing Projects from Trinity House Fellows

1. Psalter Translation
James Jordan has been translating Psalms for chanting for decades. He is putting the finishing touches on Book 1 of the Psalter, which will be available by May 2014.

2. Metropolitan Manifesto
THI fellow Rich Bledsoe is finishing the manuscript for The Metropolitan Manifesto, which recounts his many years of ministry to civic leaders in Boulder, Colorado and outlines a strategies for ministry in today’s urbanized world.

Future Plans

Planning for In-Residence Program

1. Evening Courses
In the spring of 2014, Peter Leithart will begin teaching evening classes for locals in Birmingham. During February and March, he will teach on Leviticus, and later in the spring he will teach a Shakespeare course.
2. In-Resident Program
The Board and staff at THI are currently working out plans for our year-long in-residence program of studies. The program will launch in the fall of 2015.
3. Whole Bible Translation
Alongside the Psalter project, James Jordan has been working on a fresh translation of the entire Bible.

The Nevin Lectures

Sacramental Theology from a Baptist Perspective

On February 7-8, 2014, Dr. Timothy George will be our special guest at the first annual Nevin Lectures. Dr. George is dean of Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, AL.
He’ll be giving a series of 4 lectures all deal with a Baptist understanding of the sacraments.

To accomplish our goals, Trinity House needs office and library space. We are well into planning, but we need your help to finish. Specifically, we need funds for:

  • A 1000 square foot library on the grounds of Trinity Presbyterian Church
  • Library shelving
  • Interior improvements to parsonage, which will house offices for Trinity House
  • Computers and software
  • Multi-function network printer
  • Other office equipment
  • Office furniture.

Please consider giving to Trinity House to fund these needs, and to help us continue serving and reforming the church and culture.
